Case #18 Graphic Novel

Drama

ISBN: 9780545326995
Publisher: Scholastic, Inc
Publication Date: 09/01/2012

Callie a student in school wants to try out for her middle
school theater production but instead, she chooses a different
part of the production but choosing stage crew. She is
determined to make it to Broadway for the production. But,
can she Salinas ticket and have the rest of the cast work together?

This is a really cute story for middle school but younger
students who are just starting to read chapter books. I feel like a
lot of students go through things that aren’t talked about in school
like bullying and make the students feel like left out. This is the
same author who wrote the book Smile.

Case # 17 poem

The classic story of the cat in the hat. Dick and Sally are board

 a very adventurous day.

This is such a classic story that any age can enjoin it. Reading
it for the 20th time it never gets old. The fact that they made a
A TV show about the Cat in the Hat just adds to the excitement.

I would without a doubt give this a 5 out 5!

Case #16 poem

Falling Up

ISBN: 9780060248024
Publisher: HarperCollins US
Publication date: 01/24/2006

Coming from the same classic author Shell Silverstein brings
classic black-and-white stories filled with unforgettable
characters. Allison Beals goes through the Garden all in a
hot air balloon

I really like this book it looks really fun. The fact that it
was in black-and-white he just reminds me of the old fashion
book that no one can really find any more. The drawings are
detailed but in a very precise manner that doesn’t have too much
detail but yet not sure straight lines. This book is great for all ages.

I would rate this a 4 out of 5.

Case # 15 historical fiction

Esperanza Rising

ISBN: 9780439120425
Publisher: Scholastic, Inc.
Publication Date: 05/01/2002

Esperanza is a little girl who is always in fancy dresses, has
everything, but when the Great Depression strikes it affects Mexico,
when it does Esperanza’s family is affected. She has to not just help
herself but her family.

I want this book in school. Like most people probably did, but I read
this book as a whole class book. I know of the bus and I know it’s a
very good boy but because he read it as a whole class, I never paid
attention because that’s not how I learn how to read and so because
of that, I didn’t really enjoy the book at the time. Now that I have
my own time to read it I loved it. This book is definitely for middle
school and older students.

I rate this book a 5 out of 5.

Case #14 informational

Surviving Hitler: A Boy in the Nazi Death Camps

ISBN: 9780060007676
Publication Date: 09/17/2002

This book follows the story of a 12-year-old young boy named
Jack Mandelbaum who was in a Nazi Concentration camp. It
follows his journey from being separated from his family to a
never-ending nightmare and no food. Jack survives and tells his story.

Even though this is a very touchy subject for some people
because of religion it really goes through the exact experiences
kid goes through while being in a concentration camp. I took a
holocaust class in high school and I feel like if we read books like
this it would’ve made the clothes so much more interesting. I really
like this book.

I would give this a 5 out of 5.

Case #13 informational

Undefeated: Jim Thorpe and the Carlisle Indian

School Football Team

By: by Steve Sheinkin
ISBN: 9781250294470
Publisher: Square Fish
Publication Date: 01/15/2019

Jim Thorpe isn’t just a town where I live but the town a
person was named after. This book goes through Jim
Thorpe’s history on how he helped create a legendary
Football team during a violent time for Native Americans
 like Jim Thorpe.

This book is very interesting, for it is an informational
text it’s very kid-friendly. The text is very easy to read and
to follow but it is wordy for a young reader. This book has lots
of pictures to help move the story along. I would definitely
recommend this book for older students who are 4th grade or up.

I would rate this a 4 out of 5.

Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed (25th Anniversary Edition)

ISBN: 9780544283299
Publisher: HMH Books
Publication Date: 10/07/2014

The classic tale of five little monkeys jumping
on the bed. Her cage monkey falls off the bed not
expecting to get hurt but they do.

I would definitely recommend this book especially
for kindergarten and first graders because they are
getting into learning the alphabet around that age so
it would help them to read it if they know the song
five little monkeys jumping on the bed.

I would rate this book a five out of five.

Case #11 picture

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie (Big Book)

ISBN: 9780064434096
Publication Date: 01/10/1997

This book is about what happens if
you give a mouse a cookie. The mouse
does one thing after another just because
he ate a cookie, all the sugar is getting to him.

I personally did not grow up with these books but
the more I had read it and I went into the series
that goes along with the book it is very fun and very
creative in terms of the writing style. It has very big
bright colored pictures. Just like any other picture book,
it repeats a lot for the younger children who don’t really
know how to read that well.

I would rate this book a five out of five.

Case #10 picture

Madeline

ISBN: 9780140564396
Publication Date: 05/28/2000

The classic tale of an orphan girl Named Madeline
who lives in Paris with 12 other girls and what they
do together.

I love the Madeleine book. I want this a lot when I was
Younger. I even read this to my class at work and
because I love this book, I guess I put all my passion
into it when I read it as a read aloud to the class and
they love it. And of course, I love the fact that they love it.
I would definitely recommend this to not just teachers
but the students. There are so many sequel books to the
original Madeline book that children would love to see
her next adventure.

I read this book a five out of five.

Case #9 fantasy

To the Future, Ben Franklin! (Magic Tree House Series #32)

ISBN: 9780525648321
Publication Date: 07/09/2019

This magic treehouse book Takes children back in time to learn
about Ben Franklin and what he did as a founding father how
he invented the lightbulb.

The magic tree house series, in general, is a very well known
book series for young readers who are just learning how to
read chapter books. I was never really taught how to read a
chapter book very well so I kind of skipped over the Magic
treehouse books and the Junie B. Jones series catch up but
when I did read them, they were really fascinating.

I would rate this book  a five out of five.

Case #8 traditional Tale

The Three Little Pigs

By: by James Marshall
ISBN: 9780140557428
Publication Date: 06/01/1996

This classic story of three little pigs and how a wolf tries to
blow their houses down to eat the little pigs. Will the pigs be
eaten or will the pigs save each other?

When I was little, I was aa little scared of this book, but the
more and more I read I loved it. I would recommend this book
to even toddlers who can’t read. It is a classic bedtime story for
children. I did not like how same the print was, even I as an adult
had trouble reading it, children who are just learning the alphabet
will have trouble.

I would rate this book a 4 out of five.

Case #7 realistic fiction

Junie B., First Grader (at Last!) (Junie B. Jones Series #18)

ISBN: 9780375815164
Publication Date: 08/20/2002

Junie B. Jones takes you on an adventure of what it is
to be a first-grader with her vision getting worse. Can
she convince her parents that she doesn’t need glasses?

In my house, we have at least 20 Junie B. Jones books and
because I was the youngest, I couldn’t really read them by
myself at first, but I loved the ones I could read. I definitely
would recommend these books for students who are just starting
to read chapter books so maybe students who are at the end of first
grade maybe second grade.

I would rate this book and the series a 5 out of 5.

Case #6 Beginner reader

Biscuit (My First I Can Read Series)

ISBN: 9780064442121
Publisher: HarperCollins US
Publication Date: 01/24/2006

Biscuit the adorable dog that goes on all different adventures. In this
My First I Can Read book biscuit doesn’t want to go to bed. Why
won’t he go to bed? Throughout the story, Biscuit tries his best to find
something to keep him awake.

I used to read the biscuit books all the time, I loved them. I would highly
recommend not just this book but all the biscuit series to all children of
all ages, especially early readers, like preschoolers. What is shocking to
me is that I don’t see these books in many classrooms even on a bookshelf
for students to look at.

I would rate this 5 out of 5.
